Captain chairs or bed settee

I got a recliner last birthday which I'm afraid I don't find too comfortable. There is a pad at the top that pushes my head forward giving me an aching back/neck.

At the Mercia marina show I tried out a Wilsons chairs which was much more comfortable  ( I think my chair was from a department store)  I am sure I will replace my chair but we are dithering as to whether to replace the little settee we have with another recliner or a bed settee. I don't think the boat is big enough for more than two so my choice is the selfish one.... two captain chairs, however Rachel is erring on the side of sociable caution and thinking of a Wilsons bed settee.

What do you have and why..... it might help me make up my (our) mind?

We started off with a Wilsons bed settee but it,s gone now, not good to sit on and too long to use as a bed across the boat so it had to be turned 90 degrees. A bit of advice we had when building our boat was don't design it for visitors, their only on the boat for a short time, your there all the time. Get two comfy chairs with foot stools, the visitors can sit on them. I will tell you when we bump into each other why I will never be dealing with Wilsons again.

We purchased 2 Commodore chairs and one footstool from Wilsons about 3 years ago. We could have gone for the smaller Captain chair, but having sat in both, we agreed the Commodore was the one for us. If your worried about visitors staying do what we did, buy a double airbed.

We went for a bed settee which we bought from Elite Furnishings at Tamworth. We went for the Salisbury model and tweeked the measurements having it 3 inches wider and 2 inches deeper, to make a slightly larger double bed. It's so easy to use with lots of storage underneath. Everyone that's used it comments on how comfortable it is when used as a bed, and it's certainly comfortable to sit on. We considered the chair option, but Louise is fond of lying flat out on it. Certainly recommend if you wanted a bed settee.

Thanks all for your various feedback. Intrigued by the comments re Wilsons, the blow up airbed seems like a great compromise. Not sure if our little boat could take the bigger Commodore chairs. Some testing is needed I think.

We have a Wilsons bed settee but it stands along the bulkhead, not the gunwale so we don’t have to turn it round when needed as a bed. We find it comfy to sit on but a bit of a pain to unfold into a bed and fold up again. The idea of a double air bed sounds very sensible for the occasional visitor.

Airbeds are a lot more comfortable these days. My brother has a double one - quick to inflate and very comfortable on our occasional visits.

Jubilee has a small two-seater leather settee, which you have seen!
