Stress and excitement on the canals

I really enjoy reading Bruce's blog Sanity Again...... in his latest blog post he includes comments on stress and excitement related to his recent cruising.

I want this type of excitement and stress. It compares very favourably to the issues I and my good lady seemingly deal with in our day to day living (not afloat you may guess) It makes me wonder what is /was the trigger to say, bugger this I'm off to live on me boat...? Come on you alternative lifestyle/livaboards/retirees......what was the trigger that got you aboard?

In my case, real serious stress, the sort that leaves you feeling beaten up at the end of the day. Then the chest pains started, and we knew it was time to go...

You are right, even the K&A is nothing like work stress, defined as: your guts are going "You've got to be joking!", and you hear your mouth saying "That'll be no problem..."

We decided to make the move when we had the neighbour from hell, we didn't want to move to another " house" as there was a chance we would get the same type of neighbour, they are quite common these days! Anyway delving into the unknown was sheer madness, but we did and it was one of the worst and most fantastic things I have ever done! I wouldn't change any of it, and will live aboard until it is impossible to do so, which hopefully will never happen! Its bliss with a capital B!

Illness for 4 years & after recovery came the realisation that life's too short - make the most of it while you can - so don't hang about, make your (shared) dream happen... :-)

Hi,

Bruce, Debbie & Heth, thanks for your comments. Sometimes work can feel like an endurance event and when poor health comes it makes it so much harder. It is also competitive and that adds another dimension to the mix.

I do fear that I would miss it strange as that sounds and the boat is such a joy as it it so different to the other (working) life. Add two lads that still live with us and more importantly who we get great joy from their company (when they are about) means now is not the time. My fear is that an event will happen not sure what that means we just cannot opt for the life-change, but that is the joy of life - the unknown highs and lows.

Take care all of you and enjoy the path of life you are on right now,

Nev
